Last day

Towards the end of the day the studio became much busier. Kim, who travels around the world attending shows and selling designs, returned from his recent trip to Turkey. He brought back the unsold  collections in a suitcase and and began to organise them for his next trip. It was all hands on deck tonight, whereas I would normally finish most of the designs off. The deadline today was very important as Kim was off to L.A early Saturday morning.  Over 16 designs to be part of the new collections had to be printed, steamed, washed, finished and header in under an hour. We all worked together as a team to get all the designs done to a high standard but at a faster pace than usual. James, the other sales man who focuses more on selling to UK brands and clientele, walks in after being out a design appointments. During my time at O&K I have seen James and Kim the least. They are always on the go, traveling and attending appointments. With the sales team back in the studio, I help by organising the seen and unseen collections. As I was ticking off, which countries the samples had been too, Kim explained how it was important that the collections were moving forward, that the new season designs were the new range that was being shown. Kim also said how they do not like to show the same stuff at the same shows which is why the ticking process is important. Overall it was a hectic but controlled environment. An exciting end to the day. Just as I was about to leave the studio and say my goodbyes, the team all gathered round me and surprised me with a card and gift. Overall I found the experience really valuable, giving me a real insight into the design industry. I have learnt so much in the time I have been with Owens & Kim, and gained skills which I will take with me into the future.
